York Lodge Town Council plans date back to the 1950s but it was only in 1998 that the Wild Family developed York Lodge. By 2008 the Lodge stood at 12 rooms and by 2017, it had expanded to the 18 room capacity that it now has. The lush gardens have also evolved and bloomed over the years to create the green suburban oasis that our guests love and return to. We have three different types of rooms as detailed below:
These rooms make up the oldest wing at York Lodge and are the epitome of old world charm with high pressed ceiling’s, Oregon pine floors, and the family feel of a luxurious country cottage. Guests who appreciate this feel, often request these rooms when they book! Number 8, is the original bedroom from York Lodge that we can date back to the 1950s.
The second wing of rooms to be added to York Lodge, these spacious and light rooms infuse classic African luxury with country cottage and all the amenities you’d expect from any luxury accomodation. With free standing baths overlooking a private flower garden, four-poster beds and each with large private verandas, these rooms present a more modern take on old world charm and comfort.
The newest wing of York Lodge has incorporated variations of indigenous woods: jacaranda, teak, mahogany, pine, and cedrilla in the large rooms to give it that African welcome and fresh look. These rooms are in keeping with the rest of the Lodge: tastefully furnished and welcoming after a long day of work or travel.
The entire lodge celebrates Zimbabwe and its heritage and is filled with artwork by local artists.
